MY HOUSE: GEORGIAN RESTORATION

The brief: “We’d like the house to be calm, comfortable and practical”

This is my Grade II Georgian family house in Oxfordshire, which was in need of restoration, reconfiguration and redecoration when I took it on in 2011. It had not been updated since the 1980s.

Over 12 months the house was stripped back to reveal and restore its historic features and then redecorated to bring it up to date in a style that is a pleasing mix of old and new.

A fabulously welcoming and colourfully intriguing hallway vignette. The ruched coral silk lampshades make the touches of deep pinks and reds in the picture pop and the antique red-leather-bound books add to the textural colour interest.

Sometimes simple and minimal is the answer to decorating a room. Simple colours - the leaf green makes the oak beams sing while the choice of simple, unpretentious antique furniture adds to the atmosphere.

The colour palette in the master bedroom is soft, warm and earthy. Deep rose pink, mink, deep rusty brown and fresh white combine to create a welcoming, calm and comfortable space.
The master bedroom is painted in a moody, cocooning deep rose pink. Teamed with a warm, embroidered cream in the linen curtains, a mink cashmere throw and fresh white bedlinen, the look is chic and the feel is relaxed.
